When I was recently upgraded to this Singer Quantum Stylist machine, I was at first skeptical of the computerized side of it and slightly concerned it would be too much machine for me: a beginner seamstress.When the machine arrived I couldn't wait to try it out, I opened it immediately and carefully read through the manual (which is surprisingly simple for a machine with so many features). I wound the bobbin and threaded the machine while reading the instructions on how to do so very carefully - it's just a tad different than your basic machine where the spool sits on top. Once I got all set up with some brown thread and a white dish towel to practice on, I slowly pushed down on the pedal and - WOW. "It sews like magic!!!" I exclaimed,... First off, let me say that I would call myself an intermediate sewer. I took Clothing I and II in high school and had learned on a Bernina, which I absolutely loved, but can not afford. I then purchased a Kenmore sewing machine, a Brother sewing machine and also a lower end Singer sewing machine that don't come anywhere close to this Singer Quantum Machine. It sews so smoothly and I love that I don't have to use the foot pedal. I also love how I can change the speed that I am sewing and that it stitches faster than the other machines I had. I love that the machine will actually cut the thread and save me lots of thread and makes my life so much easier, especially when I am quilting. I have tried many of the stitches and they look amazing. I loved that this machine is computerized. It is so much quieter this way and I don't have to fidget with a knob that seems like it will break at any moment. I bought this machine from another online retailer not amazon.Their description said that they had the 2011 model which was jam free. Earlier version (2010) were having too many problems jamming. The machine is quiet and runs smooth. It does have the 600 stitches but some especially the decorative don't come out so great (which is understandable) unless you use stabilizer and embroidery thread. And must be sewn on thicker fabrics to get best results. The extension table is a plus, you must remove the free arm. The thread cutter works extremely well. The screen is bight and easy to use. The zigzag stitch is beautiful. I tried sewing denim and that is where the machine did not performed so well. It hesitate when going through denim and in order to avoid some of it you must use a denim needle. The auto tension is another function which is noted on other reviews that does not work unless you are using the preset... Read more |
